Thomas Tull, billionaire founder and CEO of Legendary Pictures, may have lost the Best Screenplay award to Spotlight, but he also had a great year. Tull’s Jurassic World took the box office by storm with $1.67 billion in receipts. Although the remake did not get any nominations, Straight Outta Compton, co-produced by Legendary, was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and scored more than $200 million at the box office.
The former CEO of Legendary Pictures said at his Edgeworth home on Thursday January 1 2017 that he and his family would be moving to Pittsburgh from Los Angeles full time and that his holding company, Tulco, will be headquartered here as well.
Already a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and owner of Rivendale Farm in Washington, Pa., Mr.Tull is fully committing to his adopted city. Tulco, which enables subsidiary companies to grow through its tech hub’s proprietary technology, is valued at more than $1 billion.
Tulco subsidiary companies range from FIGS, a medical apparel and lifestyle clothing company; to Edgeworth Security, a consulting firm that provides data and monitoring solutions; to RoadRunner, a technology based recycling and waste management company.
Mr. Tull is already on the Carnegie Mellon University board.more » « less
