Brooke Garber Neidich

Brooke Garber Neidich graduated from Washington Square College in 1972. She is an NYU Trustee and a member of the Sir Harold Acton Society. She is also a Trustee of NYU Medical School and NYU Hospitals Center, and she is a Trustee and Chair of NYU’s Child Study Center, which she founded with Dr. Harold Koplewicz. The New York University Child Study Center is dedicated to developing and applying scientifically-sound practices that can be utilized on a national scale to significantly improve prevention, identification and treatment of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. Outside of NYU, Mrs. Garber Neidich is a Trustee of the Lincoln Center Theatre where she chairs the executive committee, of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and of the Chapin School. In 1999, Mrs. Garber Neidich received the United Hospital Fund’s Distinguished Community Service Award for her role in founding the NYU Child Study Center. In 2002, she received the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry “Catcher in the Rye” Humanitarian Award. Sidney Garber founded his eponymous jewelry store in Chicago in 1946. It was there that his daughter, Brooke Garber Neidich, who now helms the company, learned the ropes. “I grew up behind the counter,” she told us. Under her creative auspices, Sidney Garber has gone on to garner many new fans—Ashley Olsen, Mary-Kate Olsen and Rihanna among them. But her most significant contribution has been to pledge all of her profits to charity. Every last penny goes to organizations dedicated to children’s mental health and wellness, education and the arts. (Brooke’s commitment to the arts stems in part from her position as cochair of the Whitney Museum of American Art; ELLE magazine recently named her one of the top 10 women in the art world.) Mrs. Garber Neidich is married to Daniel. M. Neidich and they have three grown children, Jon, Stephen, and Mallory.
