Mr. James C. Smith, Jim has been the Chief Executive Officer of Webster Financial Corp., and of its subsidiary, Webster Bank, National Association since 1987. Mr. Smith has been the President of Webster Financial Corp., since June 2008. He serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Webster Business Credit Corporation. He is active in a number of organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the communities served by Webster. He joined Webster Bank in 1975, and was elected President, Chief Operating Officer of Webster Bank in 1982 and of Webster in 1986. He served as the President of Webster Financial Corporation and Webster Bank from 1987 to April 2000. Mr. Smith serves as the Chairman of the Corporate Governance Task Force of the American Bankers Association. He has been the Chairman of Webster Financial Corp., and Webster Bank, National Association since 1995. He has been a Director of Webster Financial Corp., since 1986 and Webster Bank since 1982. Mr. Smith serves as a Director of Webster Business Credit Corporation and Palace Theater. He serves as a Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Inc. He also serves as a Director of St. Mary's Hospital, located in Waterbury, Connecticut. He served as a Director of MacDermid Incorporated, from 1994 to June 2007. He served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Bankers Association until December 2002. He is Co-Chair of the Governor's Council on Economic Competitiveness and Technology in Connecticut, and is active in numerous community and economic development organizations. He is a member of the executive committee of the Connecticut Bankers Association, Co-chairman of the American Bankers Council and was a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. Mr. Smith holds an AB degree from Dartmouth College.
