January 2006 — Present (4 years 1 month) • Serves as the focal point within the Secretary’s office where the extensive existing economic capabilities of the Department can be organized to serve immediate and longer-term policy needs. • Provides regular briefings to the Secretary of Commerce on the current state of the US economy as reflected in official and private data releases and prepares special analyses on topics of interest. • Ensures that the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary are provided with immediate access to needed statistical and economic information and are provided the appropriate context in which to evaluate that information. • Helps drive the Secretary’s agenda across the department and serves as the change leader for several key specific strategic and tactical issues related to competitiveness and innovation. • Serves as Executive Director to the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on “Measuring Innovation in the 21st Century February 1999 — December 2005 (6 years 11 months) Senior Advisor on technology Issues and official representative to major international organizations--OECD, APEC,and ILO. • Advised the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs on international and domestic issues relating to general economic trends, trade, poverty, electronic commerce, information technology, and the information economy. • Conducted research and publishes several reports annually on a variety of issues. • Served as Chair of the Working Party on Indicators for the Information Economy of the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). This working party is charged with developing definitions, indicators, and measurement methodologies relevant to information societies. • Served as a delegate to the Economic Committee of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). • Represented the Department of Commerce at the annual International Labor Conference sponsored by the International Labor Organization (ILO).
