Most recently, in April of 2008, he was appointed by New York Governor David A. Patterson to serve on the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct—the state commission that decides ethical complaints against judges. In 2008, he was also named a New York SuperLawyer. Mr. Belluck has lectured extensively on asbestos, defective products and tort law, and has served as an adjunct lecturer of law at the SUNY-Buffalo School of Law, where he taught a course on asbestos and mass torts. Mr. Belluck is also an avid motorcycle rider, and has significant experience representing injured motorcycle riders. Prior to founding Belluck & Fox, Mr. Belluck served as counsel to the New York State Attorney General, where he represented the State of New York in its litigation against the tobacco industry. Mr. Belluck was instrumental in settling the State’s tobacco lawsuit for $25 billion. Joe also served as Director of Attorney Services for Trial Lawyers Care, a volunteer organization dedicated to providing free legal assistance to victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Mr. Belluck is an active member of several bar associations. He was recently asked to join the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, an organization of lawyers and judges who have exhibited the highest principles of the legal profession, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New York Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Belluck graduated magna cum laude from the SUNY-Buffalo School of Law in 1994. During law school, he served as Articles Editor of the Buffalo Law Review and received the New York State Bar Association’s Legal Ethics Award. After law school, Mr. Belluck served as a judicial law clerk for Justice Lloyd Doggett of the Texas Supreme Court, and then as a staff attorney and consumer lobbyist for Public Citizen in Washington, D.C.
