Mrs. Bass received a B.A. from Smith College in 1970 and an M.L.A. from Stanford University in 2007. She has been an active supporter of many social, civic, and educational organizations and has served as a trustee at Smith College and Groton School. She has been the Board Chair of Texas Health Resources for almost two years, and she was Chair-Elect of Texas Ballet Theater last year and is currently Board Chair. She also serves on the boards of Middlesex School, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and on the Advisory Council of Rockefeller University. Mrs. Bass previously served on the board of Maine Coast Heritage Trust. She is President of the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Foundation. At Duke, Mrs. Bass has served on the Board of Trustees since 2003. She is a member of the Executive Committee, member of the Business and Finance Committee and serves as chair of the Medical Center Academic Affairs Committee. She has previously served on the Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Trusteeship committees. Additionally, she was a member of the Trinity College Board of Visitors from 1994 to 2000 and of the Campaign Steering Committee. Mrs. Bass and her husband, Robert, have generously supported Duke, most notably through the Bass program for Undergraduate Excellence to improve undergraduate teaching and through the FOCUS program, which offers integrated courses developed around interdisciplinary themes for entering students. The Basses are parents of four children, including Christopher, a 1997 Trinity graduate.
