Charles M. Boyd, M.D., MBA, a Howard University board member since 2013, is founder and medical director of the Boyd Cosmetic Surgical Institute, Birmingham, Michigan. He received his medical degree from Harvard University and MBA degree from the University of Michigan, after graduating summa cum laude from Howard in three years. He holds double board certifications and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Some of his numerous appointments at the University of Michigan include associate chief of staff, chairman of the Risk Management Committee, and assistant professor in the departments of dermatology and otolaryngology. He committed $1 million to the Campaign for Howard, continuing his record of giving to alma mater from his undergraduate years when he co-founded a scholarship program to help students in need. Other philanthropic activities include his volunteer medical mission work in Kenya for more than a decade to repair children’s cleft lips and palates; establishing a math and science nurturing program in Detroit; and serving as faculty career advisor, resident mentor program coordinator, and athletics department mentor in several mentoring programs. He serves on the boards of Equus Total Return Fund (NYSE); Intercollegiate Athletics, University of Michigan; and Bethany Relief and Rehabilitation International. A highly in-demand national physician trainer and speaker, Dr. Boyd participates in local, national, and international research activities and has authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Previously featured in The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and The Washington Post, he has received numerous professional and academic honors He served as Alumni Trustee from 2010 to 2013.
