Maureen White

Maureen White ’76, cochair of the board of overseers for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), will speak on "Iraqi Refugees: A Hidden Crisis" Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 pm in Gamble Auditorium. Her lecture is being presented by the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives. For the better part of the last decade, White has worked with a number of organizations dealing with international humanitarian issues, human rights, refugees, and children affected by armed conflict. “As cochair of the board of the IRC, Maureen travels frequently to the Middle East. Her talk will provide great insight into the situation of the large number of Iraqi refugees and internally displaced people, as well as the refugee issues in the Middle East more broadly,” said Eva Paus, the Carol Hoffmann Collins Director of the McCulloch Center. During her visit to Mount Holyoke, White will also meet informally with students to discuss potential careers in the area of international human rights. That discussion, cosponsored by the CDC, will take place at 4:15 pm in the Cassani room in Shattuck Hall. In addition to her work with the IRC, White has served on the boards of Human Rights Watch, the International Rescue Committee, Refugees International, and the Chatham House Foundation. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the North American Advisory Board for the London School of Economics. She was the United States government representative to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) from 1997 until 2001, and she served as the national finance chair of the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign and, from 2001 to 2006, for the Democratic National Committee. White also has extensive experience in international economic research. From 1978 to 1982 she was associated with the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London and the Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo. She spent eight years, from 1983 to 1991, in investment banking research in London and New York with First Boston Corporation and Globe Finlay International. After receiving her A.B. from Mount Holyoke College, White earned an M.Sc. at the London School of Economics. She is married to Steven Rattner, and they have four children.
