David G. Schilling Jr. was confirmed as the Interim Sheriff of Cuyahoga County in August of 2019. Sheriff Schilling Jr. is a 25-year veteran of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Schilling Jr. started his career with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department in 1994. Prior to his appointment as Interim Sheriff, he worked through the ranks as Deputy Sheriff and Detective Sergeant. He has 15 years of supervisory experience serving in the rank of Deputy Sheriff and has 20 years of experience conducting comprehensive investigations. His most recent roles include Supervisor of the Use of Deadly Force Investigations Team and the Officer in Charge for Internal Affairs-Inspectional Services. Sheriff Schilling Jr. has received extensive training through the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council, the Public Agency Training Council and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association. He is a member of the following organizations: Internal Affairs Institute, Ohio Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, Pipefitters Local Union 120, and the Knights of Columbus Council 10792. Sheriff Schilling Jr. graduated from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Academy in 1994 and completed the Basic Peace Officers Training Academy. He graduated from West Technical High School in Cleveland in 1976.
