Yecke received her bachelor's degree in history from the University of Hawaii, a master's degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctoral degree in gifted education from the University of Virginia. Yecke began her career as a middle school teacher and rose to become the Chancellor of K-12 Education in Florida, where she worked for Gov. Jeb Bush.
