Avram Goldberg

Carol R. Goldberg (CRG, 1931- ) and Avram J. Goldberg (AVG, 1930- ) began to take over the running of Stop & Shop as the Rabb brothers retired from the business. Carol Goldberg (née Rabb) was the daughter of Sidney and Esther Rabb. Educated at Tufts University and Harvard Business School, she originally worked a model and fashion coordinator. She entered Stop & Shop in 1958 as a Gift Shop Merchandiser in the florist department.Her husband Avram Goldberg had begun working at Stop & Shop in 1948 while studying at Harvard. After working in various positions throughout the company, the two would eventually each take a turn as Executive Vice President, President, and Chief Executive Officer. Upon Sidney Rabb’s death in 1985 Avram Goldberg became the Chairman of the Board, and the couple would continue to run the company until 1989. They have two children, Deborah and Joshua.
