Peter L. Cella is President and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, a global petrochemical joint venture with a top-quartile safety record and 2015 revenue of more than $9 billion. Cella has led Chevron Phillips Chemical to the forefront of the shale resource boom in North America, developing a $6 billion megaproject to construct an ethane cracker and two polyethylene units along the Texas Gulf Coast. The project is expected to startup in mid-2017. In 2016, Chevron Phillips Chemical was awarded the coveted Responsible Care® Company of the Year award by the American Chemistry Council for its outstanding achievement and leadership in environmental, health, safety and security performance. Cella is leading talent development efforts internally and workforce development externally. The company has been recognized by numerous organizations as an outstanding place to work. The accolades include being named the Texas Workforce Solution’s Employer of the Year in 2015, two consecutive appearances in the Houston Chronicle’s Top Work Places, and global recognition from Workforce magazine as one of its 100 Top Places to work. In addition, Chevron Phillips Chemical was named Company of the Year by ICIS Chemical Business for its superb financial performance. Throughout his career, Cella has gained strong commercial and financial experience in the chemicals and petrochemicals industry. Prior to leading Chevron Phillips Chemical, Cella served in a variety of executive posts at BASF Corporation, INEOS Nitriles, part of the INEOS Group, BP, and Innovene, LLC. He began his career at Amoco Corporation in 1981. Cella is the chairman of the Executive Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Chemistry Council. He also serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Committee for the Society of Chemical Industry. Born in the Chicago, Illinois, area, Cella attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1979 and earning a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1981.
