Clyde Shorey

Clyde E. Shorey, Jr., "Ev", of Washington, DC and Cranberry Island, ME, died July 23, 2013 peacefully at home of complications from congestive heart failure. He was 91. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan Burgess Shorey, and his four children: Clyde E. Shorey III of Arlington, MA and his wife Amy Segal Shorey; David Shorey of Los Angeles, CA and his wife Nina Shorey; Alden Lattu of Washington, DC and her husband Gordon Lattu; and Katherine Herold of Arlington, MA and her former husband Nicholas Herold. In addition he is survived by his seven grandchildren: Rachel Shorey and her wife Eliza Cava; Margot Shorey; Joshua Gill and his partner Natasha Ericta; Clyde D. Shorey; Paula Lattu; Ian Herold; and James Herold. He was born in Chicago, IL, graduated from Yale University and Columbia Law School and served during World War II in the US Army Air Corps. He moved to Washington in 1963 to join USAID. After leaving USAID, he practiced law again and devoted much of his time to nonprofits, serving on several Boards: the March of Dimes 1961-1974; People For the American Way (Treasurer); the College of the Atlantic (Chair). From 1974 until retirement in 1986, he created and directed the March of Dimes Office of Public Affairs. Other board service included Kingsbury Center and Chair of the Citizens Association of Georgetown.
