Harlan A Levy

Harlan Levy returned to the firm’s partnership in November 2015 after serving for almost five years as Chief Deputy Attorney General of the State of New York. He joined that office as its second ranking official on January 1, 2011, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's first day in office. As Chief Deputy Attorney General, he helped oversee some of the office’s most important investigations and cases, including: criminal prosecution of more than seventy public officials and non-profit executives in public integrity cases the office’s antitrust challenge to AT&T Inc.’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile the office’s initiative to compel the smartphone industry to implement technological solutions that allowed stolen smartphones to be rendered inoperable defense of the constitutionality of New York's gun control and marriage equality laws. He previously was a partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner from July 1, 2000 through December 31, 2010. He defended white collar investigations and prosecutions, conducted internal investigations, and litigated antitrust, financial fraud, product liability, and trade secret cases, representing clients including Delta Air Lines, Pfizer, DuPont and Tyco International. His legal career began as law clerk to Judge Leonard P. Moore of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and he then practiced as a litigation associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County, where he was a homicide and financial crimes prosecutor, and an early leader in the use of DNA evidence in criminal cases. He is the author of “And the Blood Cried Out,” published by Basic Books/HarperCollins, a “highly regarded book about the use of DNA in the courtroom,” The New York Times, reviewed as “superb” by The Wall Street Journal and “riveting” by Publishers’ Weekly. He has appeared frequently on national television on programs including the Today Show (NBC), Burden of Proof (CNN), Rivera Live (CNBC), Lou Dobbs (CNN), and Firing Line with William F. Buckley (PBS), and appeared over 100 times as a trial commentator on Court TV. He also previously served in numerous other leadership roles in the profession, including: Chair, Council on Criminal Justice, New York City Bar Association Board of Directors, Fund for Modern Courts Nominating Committee, New York City Bar Association Board of Directors, New York Council of Defense Lawyers Advisory Board, National Association of Attorneys General Training and Research Institute He is a magna cum laude graduate of Amherst College, where he received the Psi Upsilon or “First Citizen of the College” Prize, awarded by the President and Deans to the graduating senior who “best embodies the ideals of liberal education and character,” and Columbia Law School.
