Ottmar Wednesday morning May 4 2016, according to employees at Water Generating Systems, an Attleboro company Ottmar headed that develops and sells devices to extract water from humidity in the air. The longtime North Attleboro resident, who had recently moved to Connecticut, was also chairman of Twobolt, successor to Pawtucket-based direct mail marketer Mercury Mail. In the 1980s, Ottmar headed Inland Cable Communications which opened the area’s first cable TV service in North Attleboro. Ottmar also ran Attleboro radio station WARA, started by his Textron executive and broadcasting pioneer father Jerome Ottmar. Ottmar also built Mercury Mail/Twobolt into an industry-leading marketing and design firm serving an array of top-level business clients. An Army veteran, Ottmar once served as a congressional aide to U.S. Rep. Margaret Heckler. Ottmar was a board member and major donor to Phoenix House in Providence, to which his family contributed an initial $500,000 to fund an alcohol rehabilitation facility. It became known as Ottmar House. Ottmar’s contributions continued to grow through the years. Ottmar’s contributions honored his late brother James, who had survived alcohol addiction.
