Philip Lintilhac graduated from UVM in 1963 and received a Ph.D. in 1971 from the University of California. He has taught at UVM for more than 3 decades. Born in Shanghai in 1940, he spent most of the first ten years of his life in China. After over four years conducting research as a post-doctoral fellow at Berkeley and at Stanford University, he returned to Vermont to join the faculty at the University. His research interests lie in the fields of plant development and physiology, in the pursuit of which he has invented a number of sophisticated biomechanical instruments. In 2006, Phil was honored by the Botanical Society of America with their Centennial Award.
