Dr. Colten has been the Director of CSR since 1989 and a member of the staff since 1982. She has been the principal investigator or study director on dozens of projects. She was co-principal investigator on two large longitudinal projects funded by the National Institute of Mental Health - an 11-year study of stress and coping in adolescents and a 5-year study of the role families and schools play in helping young people with the transition from high school. Additional research interests include: survey methodology, environment and health, low income families, and domestic violence. Prior to coming to CSR, Dr. Colten spent ten years at the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan, where she received her Ph.D. She is a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts.
