Mike Taylor has an active and extensive practice in the fields of government relations, technology, economic and business development, municipal law, health care and financial services. A sole practitioner in Albermarle, Mr. Taylor is of counsel to Parker Poe on certain matters. Mr.Taylor has tried cases at all levels of the North Carolina trial court system as well as in federal district court and before North Carolina administrative law judges. Mr. Taylor provides government relations and business development representation for an international leader in technology. He provided assistance in bringing about a large economic development transaction. Mr. Taylor served as a member of the Stanly County Economic Development Commission and represented the Stanly County Industrial Facilities and Pollution Control Financing Authority which issues industrial revenue bonds. Mr. Taylor served as county attorney for Stanly County and counsel for the Stanly County Airport. He currently serves as town attorney for New London and Stanfield. He has many years of experience with planning and zoning issues and dealing with local planning boards and boards of adjustment. Mr. Taylor has served as general counsel for a North Carolina bank and served as legal advisor in the establishment of its brokerage subsidiary, which he currently represents along with its insurance agency. In the financial services field, he has had numerous dealings with federal and state banking and securities regulators and he has testified before Congress on the subject of insurance company solvency. Prior to entering private practice in 1981, Mr.Taylor served as an assistant to the North Carolina Attorney General at John Umstead Hospital and Assistant Duke University Counsel at Duke University Medical Center. For the past 23 years, Mr.Taylor has served as legal counsel for local political subdivisions of the State of North Carolina managing behavioral services. He has made presentations to the North Carolina Council of Community Programs and the North Carolina County Attorneys Association on the subject of mental health system reform in North Carolina. In recognition of his activities as a lawyer in the field of substance abuse treatment, in 1999 President Clinton appointed Mr.Taylor to the White House Parents Advisory Council on Youth Drug Abuse. Mr. Taylor served as lieutenant junior grade United States Navy Reserve in South Vietnam in 1970-71, and was twice awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V".
