In June 2003, J. Patrick Cave started a firm which became Cypress Advisory, LLC, part of the Cypress Group. Cypress Advisory is a corporate strategy consulting firm, with a focus on public policy, based in Washington DC. In March 2003, Mr. Cave left government service after serving at the Treasury Department as the Acting Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions. While at Treasury, Mr. Cave was responsible for directing the Department's legislative and regulatory policy development with regard to financial institutions. Such institutions include commercial banks, investment banks, mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity funds, insurance and reinsurance companies, and pension funds. Further, Mr. Cave managed the Department's policy regarding privacy, critical infrastructure protection, financial education, and Government Sponsored Enterprises (FannieMae, FreddieMac, the Federal Home Loan Bank System, the Farm Credit System, and FarmerMac). He also managed the oversight of the Treasury's Terrorism Risk Insurance Program and the Office of Student Loan Marketing Association (SallieMae) Oversight. Mr. Cave, who hails from Rep. Baker's home state of Louisiana, holds an MBA degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a BA from the University of Virginia and also studied urban design at Columbia University. He and his wife, Annah, have three young children, Frances Grace, Louisa Elizabeth, and Walker Patrick.
