Michael H. Levine has been associate vice president for development at the University of Chicago since 2009. His primary focus is working with donors of gifts of $5 million or more. Levine has taught nonprofit management in the Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies at the University of Chicago, including a course on improving board effectiveness. Levine began his fundraising career in 1981 at the University of Chicago. He held several positions in the annual fund beginning with director of the Telefund. In 1986, he became director of development for the Midwest region for Brandeis University. In 1990, he joined the Museum of Science and Industry as director of development. In 1996, he returned to the University of Chicago to become senior director for major gifts at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was the first principal gifts team leader at the medical center and served as its associate vice president for development. During the past 25 years Levine has been a consultant to many nonprofit organizations and speaks at conferences about fundraising and board development.
