Sylvia Neil

Lecturer, University of Chicago Law School

Sylvia Neil is a lecturer in law at the University of Chicago Law School. She is founder and chair of the Project on Gender, Culture, Religion and Law at Brandeis and is co-editor of its book series (Brandeis University Press). She has been adjunct professor for several years at Northwestern University School of Law focusing on religion, law and politics and has taught courses on religious liberty, gender, jurisprudence and legal writing. Neil was associate dean at the University of Chicago Law School. Previously she was regional legal and executive director of American Jewish Congress where she litigated cases, authored legislation, testified before governmental bodies and developed programs impacting religious liberty, women’s rights and Israel. Neil began her legal career as a poverty law litigator. She has been a consultant to not-for-profit and civic institutions and serves on several boards.
