Eric Spitz

Eric Spitz became co-owner and President at Freedom Communications in July 2012. He is responsible for implementing and evaluating Freedom’s strategic business model, which focuses on serving the community in new ways and improving the quality of content across all print and digital platforms. Spitz oversees day-to-day business operations at the Register, including product development strategies, digital initiatives, business partnerships, marketing, and improving overall customer experience and retention. Spitz has served as President of 2100 Trust since March 2011, a holding company created specifically for the purpose of purchasing newspaper entities. He played an instrumental role in 2100 Trust’s prospecting and acquisition of Freedom on July 25, 2012. Previously, Spitz served as Chief Financial Officer at Narragansett Brewing Company from September 2008 to September 2011, where he helped revive the classic beer brand that had served as the official beer of the Boston Red Sox for more than 30 years. Spitz has been a successful investor and entrepreneur throughout his career, having launched digital companies like Gazelle and Beerdog. From 2004 to September 2008, Spitz served as co-founder and President of UFood Restaurant Group, a concept that offers healthy food selections in airports, hospitals, health clubs and other high-traffic locations. Before that, he founded sports technology company Trakus in 1997, which accelerated the emergence of digital information systems in the world of sports. Trakus’ platform has delivered and influenced dramatic new information gathering capabilities in hockey, golf, horse racing, auto racing and other sports. He served as CEO at Trakus through August 2004. Spitz received a MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
