David R. Hobbs is a Managing Director in Compass Advisers’ New York office having joined the firm in April 2011. Mr. Hobbs has over 15 years experience in strategic advisory and capital markets with major global institutions. Prior to joining Compass, Mr. Hobbs spent almost nine years at Citigroup focused on international mergers & acquisitions. Most recently, Mr. Hobbs focused on the international natural resources space advising clients such as China National Petroleum Corporation, Ecopetrol, Petrobras and Shell among many others. In the early part of his investment banking career Mr. Hobbs was a generalist but still focused on cross border advisory. Mr. Hobbs has completed numerous complex landmark transactions throughout his career. Selected examples include CNPC’s acquisition of Petrokazakhstan, which at the time was the largest acquisition ever by a Chinese company, General Motors’ acquisition of Daewoo Motors and CSX’s sale of its container terminals business to Dubai Port International. Prior to Citigroup, Mr. Hobbs worked at UBS AG for nearly 5 years. During this time he traded a variety of fixed income derivative products including United States and Canadian swaps and libor-based options. He had sole P&L responsibility for the Canadian swaps and options portfolio. Mr. Hobbs obtained a Master’s of Business Administration from Columbia University with Beta Gamma Sigma Honors and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Michigan with Honors.
