Robert H Pickens

Robert (Bob) Houston Pickens (81), went home to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was born on February 3, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to William Lois Pickens and Ruth Gardner Pickens. Bob attended the St Mark's School of Texas where he was a standout athlete, one of the few achieving varsity status in three sports (Football, Basketball and Baseball) all four years of high school. Bob went on to the University of Oklahoma, later transferring and graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Business Management. Bob met Jan, the love of his life, while at St Mark's. Dating through half of high school and all of college, they married in 1961 and enjoyed nearly 60 years together. In 1962, Bob went to work for his father in the oil business, drilling and operating wells. Upon his father's retirement, Bob and his brothers founded The Pickens Company, Inc in 1974, continuing to do business in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. A multigenerational Texan and native Dallasite, Bob was a founding member and President of Dallas Energy Political Action Committee (DALENPAC), the first energy PAC founded in Dallas, that identified candidates for the US Senate who would support energy independence for the United States. Bob served on the Board of the Preston State Bank, the St Mark's School of Texas and the Hockaday School and also enjoyed membership in the Salesmanship Club and a lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Dallas Country Club, Brook Hollow Golf Club and Coon Creek Club, as well as the Idlewild, Terpsichorean and Calyx Clubs. Bob was involved in his church, the Church of the Incarnation, and Community Bible Study. Bob is survived by his wife Jan, daughters Paige Pickens Conner and husband Drew, Alison Pickens Farrow and husband Bob; grandchildren: Laura and Ryan Conner, Elizabeth, Robert and Brannon Farrow; Brothers William Charles Pickens (Bill) and wife Marguerite Ann, John Thomas Pickens and wife Kenney and multiple nieces and nephews.
