John Buckman is an entrepreneur inspired by the causes of internet freedom and free culture. He founded the online record label Magnatune in 2003 as a reaction to his experiences with the music industry. Magnatune strives to be fair both to recording artists and consumers alike and is considered a solid example of a successful "sharing economy" based business model. In 2006, he founded Bookmooch, which helps people exchange used books. The software he wrote for BookMooch deals with the exchange of over a million books a year in 91 countries. As a non-profit organisation it has donated over a hundred thousand books to libraries and charities. Coding and marketing are (strangely) major parts of his life and he is honored to be asked to help the EFF. He was born in London, England, spent his childhood in Paris, France, and finally grew up around various parts of the USA. He currently lives alternately between the San Francisco Bay area and London.
