Joel Motley

As a Managing Director of Public Capital Advisors LLC, Joel Motley provides advice on capital markets and infrastructure to emerging markets. Mr. Motley began his career in investment banking at Lazard Freres & Co. in 1985, and he became a founder of Carmona Motley Inc. in 1992. Prior to investment banking, Mr. Motley served as an aide to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, serving as chief of the Senator’s staff in New York City and surrounding counties. Mr. Motley joined the Senate staff after five years of corporate law practice which he began at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett upon graduation from Harvard Law School in 1978. He graduated from Harvard College (magna cum laude) in 1974. Mr. Motley is active today on a number of corporate and not-for-profit boards, including serving as Chairman of the Governance Committee of the New York board of the Oppenheimer Funds, and he serves on the governing board of the Mutual Fund Directors Forum. Mr. Motley is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (member of the Budget and Finance Committee) and Co-chairman of the board of Human Rights Watch. Mr. Motley also serves on the Vestry of Trinity Wall Street and is the Chairman of its Committee on Investments. He is also a board member of Historic Hudson Valley, The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, The Southern Africa Legal Services Foundation, and the Greenwall Foundation.
