Carlo Comporti

With a background that combines regulatory and supervisory experience, Carlo worked for 13 years with the European Securities and Market Authority and its predecessors, most recently as Acting Secretary General of the Authority, which is the EU financial regulatory institution that focuses on securities and investor protection. He also served as Secretary General of the Committee of European Securities Regulators, an ESMA predecessor. He joined the Authority in 1998, when it was known as the Forum of European Securities Commissions, and was a member of the Secretariat specializing in investor protection and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, a European Union law that provides consistent regulation for investment services across the member states of the European Economic Area. During his tenure with at the Authority, he was also stationed in 2001 and 2002 at the European Central Bank and the European Commission. Carlo began his career with the Italian Securities and Exchange Commission (Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa), working as an Officer in the intermediaries and international relations offices. He is also a certified accountant.
