Jay Rubenstein is a medieval historian elucidating 12th-century texts that grapple with the meaning of the First Crusade (1095-1099) and its profound consequences for the future of Europe. Jay Rubenstein received a B.A. (1989) from Carleton College, an M.Phil. (1992) from the University of Oxford, St. John’s College, and a Ph.D. (1997) from the University of California, Berkeley. He was an assistant professor of history at the University of New Mexico (1999-2006) prior to joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee, where he is currently an associate professor of history.
