Kelly MacMillan-Akram has joined Capitol Public Strategies and will take a leadershiprole in our State and Local government affairs practice. Kelly has worked in Democraticpolitics and government for over twenty years. She is joining Capitol Public Strategies after aseventeen-year career in the New York State Legislature where she served as Chief of Staff toAssemblyman Richard Brodsky, Chairman of the NYS Assembly Committee on Corporations,Authorities, and Commissions and former Chairman of the Committee on EnvironmentalConservation. In this capacity she served as the chief policy and political advisor to theChairman and as his spokesperson. Her expertise is well known in addressing the public policyissues before both Committees which include telecommunication policy; business corporationlaw; the policies and processes of state authorities, public benefit corporations, and localindustrial development agencies; economic development, transportation infrastructure; andenvironmental remediation and open space issues.In addition to the public policy areas she focused on, as Chief of Staff to Chairman Brodskyshe oversaw all intergovernmental relations and communication strategy and operations. Kellydeveloped and implemented many high profile public policy and advocacy campaigns acrossNew York including those for the Clean Air/Clean Water Bond Act, the public informationcampaign calling for a Constitutional Convention, and the Transportation Bond Act. In addition to her government work, she has worked on many state and local DemocraticCampaigns in New York and around the country, most notably as Campaign Manager for Assemblyman Brodsky’s campaign for NYS Attorney General in 2005 and as Finance Chair for his run in 2010. She is highly regarded for her knowledge of Democratic politics in New Yorkand her ability to develop campaign media and fundraising strategies.
