Evan Jenkins
Former US Representative from West Virginia (R-3) 2015-2018
The Supreme Court of Appeals is West Virginia’s highest court and the court of last resort. The court is composed of five Justices. Justices are elected in nonpartisan elections to twelve-year terms. The Chief Justice is chosen by members of the Court and serves a one-year term. The governor appoints justices to fill vacancies. An appointee who wishes to remain in office must run in the next election. 2018 saw the resignation or retirement of three of the five Justices as they were either impeached or pleaded guilty to various felonies.
