Cox Media Group Sells Mundo Hispánico Buyer Atlanta-based Mundo Hispano Digital Network headed by former Ga. state Senator MIKE FARRELLSEP 19, 2018 Cox Media Group said Wednesday that it has sold Mundo Hispánico to Mundo Hispano Digital Network (MHDN), a tech-focused media company created to serve the growth and needs of the US Latino community. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, MHDN is a group led by former Georgia state Sen. Sam Zamarripa, now CEO of Intent Solutions of Atlanta, and two partners with strong ties to the local Hispanic community: Vamos Ventures founder Marcos Gonzalez and Rene Alegria, most recently CEO of a digital health and wellness portal SaludMovil.com. Cox_Media_Group.svg Mundo Hispánico launched in 1979 and has served as metro Atlanta’s largest Spanish-language newspaper for more than four decades. The Atlanta Journal Constitution (which is owned by Cox Media Group), purchased Mundo Hispánico in 2004 and rapidly expanded its digital reach through a website launched in 2015 that now includes more than 4.5 million Facebook followers and “MiMundo” communities that focus on topics like fashion and money. That solid foundation, coupled with our mission to strengthen Atlanta’s position as a center for Hispanic media in the country, really solidifies this acquisition.
