Our History Rockman et al was built from the ground up by our founder Saul Rockman. After leaving Apple Computer in 1990, Saul launched his research, evaluation, and consulting firm from a basement office in San Francisco. He grew his business to where it stands today – with 19+ talented staff conducting a wide variety of projects for public and private clients across the United States. Saul continues to steer the helm. Building on Saul’s longtime contacts within education and technology, the company initially engaged in studies of school reform and educational policy with an emphasis on the use of technology. Over time, Saul built a team with diverse backgrounds and interests and enlarged the company’s scope to include research and evaluation on topics such as educational leadership, assessment development, and a wide range of market research activities. Rockman et al has worked with the National Science Foundation to investigate how Bill Nye the Science Guy engages children and expands their understanding of science. We’ve conducted pioneering 1:1 studies for Microsoft and Toshiba – demonstrating the impact of technology when every student has access to their own laptop at home and in school. We’ve helped world class museums discover the outcomes of their exhibits and programs, including the American Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian, and the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. We’ve gathered evidence on the importance of after school and extra curricular programs including Poetry Out Loud, National History Day, Youth Radio, and Black Girls Code. Rockman et al has helped study educational initiatives that affect thousands of students in New York City Schools. We’ve prepared policy briefs, white papers, research summaries, and marketing materials for organizations such as the National School Boards Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers. Our staff has also worked with state departments of education in California, West Virginia, and Indiana, as well as regional educational laboratories. Throughout it all, Rockman et al has prioritized professional development and making scholarly contributions, so that our employees continue to grow and give back to the field of education research. We view every new project as an opportunity to expand on this tradition.
