ECMC Group has seen firsthand how high debt, poor completion rates and unsatisfactory job placement rates have disproportionately impacted students attending certain for-profit schools. That experience motivated the ECMC Group board of directors and leadership team to look to make a difference in career education — an important option for students working to gain the in-demand skills and training today’s employers are seeking. As a result, in November 2014, ECMC Group announced its plans to acquire more than 50 campuses from Corinthian Colleges, Inc. and transition them from for-profit colleges into dynamic nonprofit learning institutions. Building on its commitment to helping students succeed, ECMC Group launched Zenith Education Group, a nonprofit provider of career school training, to transform Everest and WyoTech into schools synonymous with student success — measured in strong program completion and job placement rates. With the closing of the transaction on February 2, 2015, we became the largest nonprofit career college system in America. However, we are not focused on our size — we are committed to producing better results for our students. Too many students are taking on excessive debt and leaving school without the skills they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market. We seek to change that. The sale enabled tens of thousands of students — many of whom were just months from graduating — to complete their degrees at campuses that would have otherwise closed. We do not take this opportunity — and newfound responsibility — for granted.
