Kate Pew Wolters is a member of the Board of Directors of Steelcase Inc., and chair of the Steelcase Foundation, an endowed corporate foundation of Steelcase Inc. Steelcase Inc., the global leader in the office furniture industry, delivers a better work experience to its customers by providing products, services and insights into the ways people work. Its comprehensive portfolio includes architecture, furniture and technology products designed to support social, economic and environmental sustainability. Kate was appointed chair of the Steelcase Foundation upon her leaving the post of executive director of the Steelcase Foundation in October 1996. The Steelcase Foundation was established in 1951 as a private, independent foundation to make grants to non-profit organizations that empower people to reach their full potential. Kate also serves as president of the KRW Foundation. Founded in 1997 by Kate and her late husband, Richard, this private foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations with an emphasis in the arts, social justice, and disability. Kate was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the National Council on Disability in 1994 and was reconfirmed by the U.S. Senate in 1996. For eight of her nine years on the council, she served as its vice chair. Kate currently serves as a board member for a number of organizations, including the ACLU of Michigan, DisArt and First Steps Early Childhood Commission. She also serves as a member of the board of the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund, a foundation established by her parents that addresses public education in Palm Beach County, Florida and as a member of the board of trustees of Grand Valley State University and the Grand Valley University Foundation. Kate holds a master’s degree in social work from Michigan State University and a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Ms. Wolters has been engaged in philanthropic activities since 1996. She is currently President of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation and is a community volunteer and advisor. She also serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Steelcase Foundation.
