Dr Andrea L Rich

Former President, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (also a founding director of the Private Bank of California and a director of Douglas Emmett Real Estate Investment Trust). She led LACMA from 1995 to 2005 and is credited with increasing the institution’s endowment from $50 million to $100 million during her tenure. Rich was a scholar of intercultural and interracial communications and rose from an assistant professorship to become UCLA’s executive vice chancellor during three decades of service to the university. At UCLA, she helped improve undergraduate education, increase support for teaching, renovate instructional facilities and restructure the university’s professional schools and academic programs, the release states. She married John Rich in 1966, while she was in graduate school, and he became an Emmy-winning director and producer of television situation comedies such as “All in the Family” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” Their first son, Anthony, was born in 1968, shortly before Andrea received her doctorate; then came Robert, in 1970. The couple separated in 1985 and later divorced. Rich is survived by two sons, Anthony and Robert; a brother, Robert Beck; and a granddaughter, Alexandra.
