Prior to forming the Ashworth Group, Sid Ashworth spent 14 years as a professional staff member with the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations. From 1997 to 2003, she served as the majority and minority staff directors of the Military Construction Subcommittee. From 2003 to 2009, she served as the majority and minority staff directors of the Defense Subcommittee. During that time, she successfully orchestrated and implemented the congressional strategy to override the first presidential line item veto of military projects on any appropriations bill. During her tenure with the Defense Subcommittee, she was responsible for formulating annual funding and legislation recommendations for defense and intelligence spending in excess of $600 billion annually. In 1994, Ms. Ashworth was a U.S. Office of Personnel Management legis congressional fellow with the Senate Appropriations Committee. In 1993, she served as a liaison officer for the U.S. Army, Pacific, in the Pentagon, and from 1989 to 1993, she held a variety of senior positions with the U.S. Army, Pacific, primarily within the areas of resource management, force structure and strategy. She served as a special adviser to the commanding general of the U.S. Army, Pacific, from 1990 to 1991, and led a senior task force to consolidate army command and control throughout the Asia-Pacific region from 1989 to 1990. From 1985 to 1989, Ms. Ashworth held several senior analyst positions within Eighth U.S. Army and U.S. Forces, Korea, in the Republic of Korea. There she took an active role in rebuilding and shaping the U.S. military forces assigned to Korea during the Reagan administration. Ms. Ashworth was also an adjunct professor with the University of Maryland’s Far East Division in business management. From 1984 to 1985, she served as a facilitator and trainer for the Military Family Department at the U.S. Army War College. Ms. Ashworth holds a M.B.A. from Campbell University and a B.A. in management from the University of Maryland. In 1992, she was a senior executive fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. She has been a guest lecturer on the legislative process at Indiana University, the Brookings Institution, and Georgetown University. She is also the recipient of several Department of the Army public service awards and is a 2009 recipient of the National Guard MG G.V. “Sonny Montgomery” Award.
