Margarethe Cammermeyer

1942 - Born in Oslo, Norway on the 24th of March. 1951 - Immigrated to US.1956 - Became naturalized US citizen. 1961 - Margarethe Cammermeyer joined the Army Student Nurse Program. 1963 - Received a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Maryland. 1988 - Margarethe Cammermeyer met her partner, Diane Divelbess, when Margarethe Cammermeyer was 46. 1989 - Margarethe Cammermeyer disclosed that Margarethe Cammermeyer is a lesbian. 1992 - Discharged from military for homosexuality, but ultimately reinstated by judicial order. 1994 - Co-wrote memoir Serving in Silence. 1998 - After retirement, Margarethe Cammermeyer ran for the United States Congress in Washington's Second District. She won the Democratic primary, but lost in the general election to Republican Jack Metcalf.
