Introducing the new book, Building the Intentional University: Minerva and the Future of Higher Education. Recently published by the MIT Press, Building the Intentional University is an in-depth look at what it took to create Minerva, the only educational program of its kind, from the beginning. Find it on Amazon, at local book sellers, or purchase direct from MIT Press. The Minerva Schools at KGI is a university program that was founded in partnership between the Minerva Project and Keck Graduate Institute (KGI), a member of the Claremont University Consortium.[1][2] It offers both a four-year undergraduate program as well as a master's in science graduate program.[3][4] The Minerva Project is a for-profit corporation that owns the technology platform the school runs on. Minerva Schools at KGI is a non-profit institution that relies on the Minerva Project for services.[5] The Minerva Institute for Research and Scholarship is a second non-profit arm which provides scholarships for Minerva Schools students, supports the academic research of faculty, and awards the Minerva Prize for teaching excellence.[6][7][8][9] Minerva’s founder, Ben Nelson, describes Minerva as "the first elite American university to be launched in a century."[10] Larry Summers, former Harvard University President and United States Secretary of the Treasury, chaired its first advisory board, joined by Bob Kerrey, former Democratic senator from Nebraska and president of the New School.[11] Seed funding $25 million from Benchmark Capital.
