Garrett Melby is co-founder and Executive Director of GoodCompany Ventures, a nonprofit accelerator for social entrepreneurs that has mobilized over $40mm in private capital to scale their impact. Garrett is also the founder of Iolite Impact Capital, the developer of MAPS (Mission Aligned Portfolio Strips), a patented structure that improves returns and reduces risk for impact investors while also generating capital for aligned nonprofit partners. Garrett is an active angel investor with Investors’ Circle, where he was a founding member of IC’s first regional chapter and a member of their national Selection Committee. He also serves on the Investment Committee for the Wharton Social Venture Fund and as a judge for the Corzo Center’s Wells Fargo Fellowship and the William James Foundation’s Sustainable Business Plan Competition. Garrett is also a Director of Generocity.org, the platform for social innovation in greater Philadelphia. Garrett is a frequent speaker at national social enterprise, impact investing and venture capital events, including the Social Venture Institute, NPR’s Radio Times, Investors’ Circle, Sustainatopia, Business 2.0 Summit, Wharton Private Equity Conference and National Academy of Management. Previously, Garrett was a VC with Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., a $12 billion NYSE listed technology incubator. He began his impact investment career as an emerging market finance attorney in the New York, London and Washington offices of Skadden Arps. Garrett holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Boston University.
