Michael Wartell is a Co-Chief Investment Officer of the firm. Michael is responsible for portfolio management and oversees Venor's research team. Prior to founding Venor with Jeff Bersh in 2005, Michael was a Managing Director and Co-head of the North American Distressed Research team at Deutsche Bank from 1999 to 2005. He was partly responsible for investing approximately $1 billion of capital and managing the research professionals. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Michael was employed by Merrill Lynch from 1993 to 1999 as Vice President/Analyst/Trader in the Distressed Debt/Leverage Finance Group. Previously, he was an analyst at Matrix Asset Advisors from 1992 to 1993, and worked as an Accountant on the Tax Staff of Arthur Andersen, LLP from 1991 to 1992. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Cum Laude) with concentrations in Finance and Accounting from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
