After nearly three decades of business leadership, Steven Jay Green became the twelfth United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore in November 1997. He concluded his service in March 2001. Ambassador Green has compiled a 30 year record of success as an international businessman leading major corporate restructurings and expansions for manufacturing, housing, consumer products, retail and real estate enterprises. He is currently the Managing General Partner of Greenstreet Partners, a private merchant bank, CEO of Auburndale Properties, a large real estate company, Chairman and CEO of k1 Ventures, Ltd., a Singapore listed Investment Company and a director of Vistage International, Knowledge Schools, Cardean Learning Group and Long Haul Holdings. In 2000, Ambassador Green formed a joint venture which was the predecessor to Greenstreet Real Estate Partners (GREP). GREP is a private real estate investment and asset management firm operating throughout the United States. Since its inception, GREP has invested more than $1.5 billion in a diversified portfolio of office, industrial, retail and multi-family properties. From 1988-1996, Ambassador Green served as Chairman and CEO of Samsonite Corporation. Samsonite was formerly the major operating subsidiary of Astrum International Corporation where he also served as Chairman and CEO from 1990-1995 and directed the strategic management and operations of Samsonite and its affiliates, American Tourister and Culligan Water. Samsonite and Culligan became separate public companies in 1995. In addition to his corporate leadership and public service, Ambassador Green has been active in national civic affairs through the Green Family Foundation. He has served as a trustee and program chair for the Children’s Health Fund, the United States Olympic Committee’s Champions in Life program, the United Way and Florida International University. He is a trustee of the University of Miami and was chairman of the Children’s Council, an organization formed to raise funding and public awareness for pediatric health care.
