Social Security people- Great post on TPM regarding more changes in the Texas Textbook deliberations. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com... This is the relevant quote: "The new amendment (.pdf), which is expected to get a vote on Thursday, would require high school history students to "discuss alternatives regarding long term entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare, given the decreasing worker to retiree ratio" and also 'evaluate efforts by global organizations to undermine U. S. sovereignty.'" |

Social Security people: Just found this article even though it's almost a week old. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/roger-hicke... The most interesting part is the mention of an "astro turf" group called AmericaSpeaks that is heavily funded by the Peterson Foundation. |

Interesting data that shows Massey donated $61,000 to the new regime in Virginia over the course of 2009. http://www.vpap.org/donors/profile/index/... |

@kevin Great work on your post regarding Massey and Blankenship. When we were doing the Chamber project I noticed some of the controversy and questionable business practices surrounding him. I discovered that the Chamber decided to launch one of their "anti-lawsuit, pro-business" newspapers in West Virginia largely, in my estimation, due to Blankenship's contentious relationship with the courts there. http://www.wvrecord.com/ Try as I might I could not find much of anything else on this paper in our databases. I did add an LS profile at that time. http://littlesis.org/org/45370/West_Virgi... |

Social Security Researchers- I came across this joint project called "Facing Up to the Nation's Finances" while researching the Concord Coalition. It could be nothing, but I thought I'd mention it. http://www.facingup.org/ One of the groups involved is called Viewpoint Learning. I'm going to see what I can find out about them. |

Thanks guys. I was doing some research on Mr. Reischauer and I noticed that he's affiliated with Harvard Corporation. Just wanted clarification before I made a faulty connection. |
Matthew @sundin the Harvard Corporation is the name of the seven-member governing body of the university, also known as the "President and Fellows of Harvard College". Harvard Management Company is the firm responsible for investing Harvard's endowment. It answers to the Corporation and is often overseen by members of the Corporation, for example James F Rothenberg and Drew G Faust |
kevin @sundin not a dumb question! they are actually two different companies. harvard management company handles the endowment, and the corporation is the university's equivalent of a board of trustees. |
sundin
This is probably a dumb question: But are the Harvard Management Company and Harvard Corporation the same thing? |

thank you @sundin for pointing out the Ryan Grim article! the problem with edits not showing up has been resolved, here's the profile: here it is: http://littlesis.org/person/51123/Peter_Roberson if it happens again (which it might) write a note letting us know. |

Hey everybody- Just wanted to point out this excellent piece by Ryan Grim over at Huffington Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/29/... It's about the revolving door machinations of a lobbyist named Peter Roberson. I noticed that he didn't have a profile so I started building one. I don't know if it's a glitch on my end or not but LS won't display the relationships I'm building for him. At any rate- The article is worth a look. |

Louisiana muckrakers: Check this out. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121824246... I added profiles for the bigwigs mentioned in the article who are associated with the think tanks: State Policy Network and Michigan Mackinac Center. Will keep digging. This is an interesting strand of investigation. |

To all obamaadmin analysts (@joshmumm, @Bob, @kevin, @Matthew, @Destructor, @ahier, @Priscilla, @Aleinad, @sundin, @leia): The Obama White House visitors list is really shaping up! We are at 146 names, and it includes visitors to many of the top officials in the White House -- the President, Larry Summers, Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett, Cass Sunstein, Nancy-Ann DeParle. Let's shoot for 200 (though the list can continue to be updated). If you need more names, let me know. We are rolling out an awesome new tool for bulk adding at the end of this month -- you all will be some of the first to test-drive it. |
