"The Interior Department too often has been seen as an appendage of commercial interests as opposed to a place where the values and interests of the American people are served ... what I want to put an end to is an Interior Department that sees its job as simply sitting back waiting for whoever has most access in Washington to extract what they want ... that's going to change under Ken Salazar."
- Barack Obama, 12/17/2008

From Nicholas Calio's Citigroup bio: "The New York Times described him as a 'forceful broker…not only between the White House and Congress, but also among Cabinet officials…' and 'credit[ed] him with a major role in the biggest White House legislative victories on Capitol Hill, among them the resolution authorizing use of force against Iraq, the creation of the Homeland Security Department, an education bill and a major tax cut.' Congressional Quarterly reported that 'lawmakers of both parties also say Calio's forceful approach ...helped Bush put together a string of triumphs on Capitol Hill.' http://www.citigroup.com/citi/corporatego...

Kent Conrad gets deficit advice from Rubin: "The former Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin, who I think has, from all observers, gotten very high grades for the economic policy that he pursued as secretary of the treasury under the Clinton years, has called me several times in the last years warning about his concern about the long-term growth of debt and what it could mean for interest rates." http://findarticles.com/p/news-articles/p...

One of the funniest Social Security privatization propaganda ideas I've come across: "With a $325,000 inaugural grant from the Peter G Peterson Foundation, the National Academy of Public Administration and PETLab, a joint initiative of Parsons The New School for Design and the nonprofit Games for Change, will develop a "Big Fiscal Game" to be played on the physical space of college campuses around the country. The game, designed to be played by 30 to 500 students at a time, will educate them about the extent and causes of the country's looming fiscal crisis, and will model the policy and budget trade-offs involved."

Erskine B Bowles was called "Corporate America's friend in the White House" in a 1998 BusinessWeek article (http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnfla...), which noted his commitment to entitlement reform: "Bowles has been adamant about finding a bipartisan, long-term fix for the financial problems of both Medicare and Social Security."

@kevin @Matthew Given the donor matching system, does it help or hurt to add middle initials when adding a person? For example (hypothetical), would it better to add Ian P. Freely or just Ian Freely? Does the Open Secrets search for matching donors include the middle initial or no? Also it's clear you want to have as complete a bio as possible in order to utilize the donor match function - correct?

@rdhyee we don't have plans to integrate that on the view yet, though it would make sense. perhaps a link like "Laura Tyson - Dean (thru Haas Business School)" could show up on UC's page? @Matthew - what do you think?

To all obamaadmin analysts (@joshmumm, @Bob, @kevin, @Matthew, @Destructor, @ahier, @Priscilla, @Aleinad, @sundin, @leia):
The Obama White House visitors list is really shaping up! We are at 146 names, and it includes visitors to many of the top officials in the White House -- the President, Larry Summers, Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett, Cass Sunstein, Nancy-Ann DeParle.
Let's shoot for 200 (though the list can continue to be updated). If you need more names, let me know.
We are rolling out an awesome new tool for bulk adding at the end of this month -- you all will be some of the first to test-drive it.
