Gwen Mellor provides legislative and political counsel to corporations, associations, and coalitions. As a lobbyist, she develops and manages legislative strategies for clients on a broad range of issues, including banking and financial services, appropriations, transportation, health care, and telecommunications. Gwen advises clients on legislative analysis, policy development, communications, and coalition building. Her practice focuses on key House and Senate Democratic members and their staffs, including members of the House and Senate leadership and the Blue Dog and New Democrat Coalitions.
Prior to joining Hogan & Hartson, Gwen was a senior consultant for a prominent bipartisan Washington government relations and public affairs firm where she managed the firm’s financial services practice.
Gwen has also been involved with numerous political campaigns and national conventions. In 2008 Gwen worked as a whip in the Democratic National Convention’s Office of the Secretary, managing communications with convention delegates and working on the convention floor to certify all vote counts, including those for the nomination of the President and Vice President. In 2006 Gwen worked for Representative Chris Carney (D-PA); in 2004 she managed the Democratic Coordinated Campaign in South Carolina; and in 2002 Gwen served as part of Senator Tim Johnson’s legal team in South Dakota.
A native of Delaware, Gwen was Senator Tom Carper’s field director in 2000. She started her career in the district office of Senator Joseph R. Biden.
While in law school, Gwen served as an intern law clerk for The Honorable Vanessa Gilmore of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. « less
