In July, LittleSis raised questions about one Obama State Department nominee, Bob Hormats, who had dubious ties to a Wall Street deal that helped finance genocide in Sudan. Hormats later faced questions from human rights groups, and was forced to elaborate on his role in that deal before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
We're looking to do more of this: vet administration nominees, officials, and insiders to the fullest extent possible. And beyond that, work to understand the political networks that hold the most sway within this administration.
Update, 1-7-2010: This group is now compiling information on visitors to the Obama White House. See this blog post for more info.

To all obamaadmin analysts (@joshmumm, @Bob, @kevin, @Matthew, @Destructor, @ahier, @Priscilla, @Aleinad, @sundin, @leia): The Obama White House visitors list is really shaping up! We are at 146 names, and it includes visitors to many of the top officials in the White House -- the President, Larry Summers, Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett, Cass Sunstein, Nancy-Ann DeParle. Let's shoot for 200 (though the list can continue to be updated). If you need more names, let me know. We are rolling out an awesome new tool for bulk adding at the end of this month -- you all will be some of the first to test-drive it. |

attention analysts! you can now write notes to research groups -- once you join the group you can write a note to the group from its home page. we're hoping to facilitate communication between analysts working on the same research project (such as the Obama group, which is delving deep into White House visitor logs.) Other groups include the health care investigative unit, the goldman sachs squad, the bay area research group, and the chamber group. |
